Christmas is often portrayed as being about presents and parties. While we enjoy our festive food, also the giving and receiving of gifts, it is much more than that. Christmas is all about a PERSON!

It is a reminder that God the Father sent His Son to be the Saviour of the world. (1st John 4:14)

One of the most profound statements in our Bible states, “He was in the world!”. (John 1:10) The Creator came to live in our world!

WHO IS THIS CHILD WHO WAS BORN?

His name is Jesus, meaning ‘Saviour’, for, as the angel said, He would save His people from their sins. Sadly, in our present day, we hear much about shortages of toys and luxury items of food that will affect the seasonal holiday but little of the abundance of blessing that God is wanting and waiting to bestow.

Blessing that is not in short supply.

Blessing that will be

ETERNAL.

HE CAME TO A MANGER

“And she (Mary) brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn”. (Luke 2:7)

In fulfilment of the Old Testament prophecies, right at the appointed time, God sent His Son into this world to be the Saviour. Cosmologists can’t measure with absolute accuracy the distance from earth to the farthest stars and we certainly could never measure the distance from Heaven to earth. The Lord from the eternal throne was laid in the lowly manger at Bethlehem as the incarnate Son of God. “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”. (1st Timothy 1:15)

“Jesus, my Saviour, to Bethlehem came.

Laid in a manger to sorrow and shame;

Oh it was wonderful, blest be His name!

Seeking for me, for me”.

HE WENT TO THE MOUNT

The Mount (Calvary) was the reason for His coming into the world. Here the sinless, perfect Man died for sinful, imperfect men and women. The One who was cradled in a manger was crucified on a cross. Why? It was to accomplish the great work of atonement for human guilt. When He had accomplished this and the price God demanded had been fully paid, He cried, “It is finished”. (John 19:30)

“Jesus my Saviour on Calvary’s tree.

Paid the great debt and my soul He set free.

Oh it was wonderful how could it be?

Dying for me, for me”.

The children’s chorus explains it well,

“No room for the Baby in Bethlehem’s inn

Only a cattle shed.

No room on this earth for the dear Son of God.

Nowhere to lay His head.

Only a cross did they give to our Lord.

Only a borrowed tomb.

Today He is seeking a place in your heart.

Will you still say to Him, “No room”?”

“Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed”. (1st Peter 2:24)

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities…” (Isaiah 53:5)

“Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures”. (1st Corinthians 15:3)

HE SENDS YOU THIS MESSAGE

His message is timeless. It is for everyone, no matter their culture, colour, or creed. We are all the same, for we have all sinned.

“For there is no difference; for ALL have sinned, and come short of the Glory of God”. (Romans 3:22&23). Christ has come, Christ has died and every one who trusts in Him is assured of everlasting life.

This is the greatest message ever to be proclaimed. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life”. (John 3:16)

Dear reader, don’t forget the real meaning of Christmas!  Appreciate that Christ came into the world and suffered for our sins on the cross.  Grasp the truth that He died for you personally. “The Son of God, Who loved me, and gave Himself for me”. (Galatians 2:20)

By trusting Him you can be assured that your sins will be forgiven and Heaven will be your eternal home.  He will fulfil His promise and come again to take those to Heaven who have trusted Him. If you have never accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour make sure you receive Him today.

“Behold, now is the accepted time; behold now is the day of SALVATION”. (2nd Corinthians 6:2)

God’s word warns us that if we never trust Christ as Saviour, we will NEVER be in Heaven, but will be lost eternally. Remember He took the outside place at Bethlehem so that you might be inside Heaven.
